SAS has the ability to transfer business data at full-duplex while SATA transfers at half. SAS also enables users to read and write data while you can’t do so, on SATA. The SAS hard disk drive uses SCSI commands for both error reporting and recovery. In terms of functionality, SAS with its SCSI command is more functional as compared to SATA that uses ATA command.

For entry level servers, SATA server hard disk drives or 7200RPM configured in either RAID 1 or 5 are sufficient for data storage purposes. However, for high performance and more data storage safety and security, the SAS hard drive is a better choice.
